And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15, ESV)
It is hard for us in the 21st century to consider that we worship other gods. The Israelites were given the choice of who they were going to serve, the false gods of the conquered lands they lived in or the one, true, living God that lead them out of Egypt. We still have to make that choice. We can go the world’s way and worship our bodies, our possessions, the bodies of the rich and famous – or we can place the Lord in the premier place in our life.
Prayer: Lord, I will serve you no matter how hard it is.
