But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. (Acts 5:29, ESV)

“I was only doing what I was ordered to do.” Those words of the German Nazis will forever ring in the ears of Soldiers. There is always the possibility that we will be given an unlawful order. The question then becomes, what can we do about it? This was the situation for the Apostles. They were told not to tell people about Jesus Christ. They were specifically commanded to spread the word about His death and resurrection. They decided that God’s laws outweigh mans’. Decide now whose orders are greater, and then use wisdom in carrying out that conviction.

Prayer: Lord, strengthen me to serve with a good will as if I were working for you and not simply for man.
