Daily Devotion

17 August

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. (John 14:12, ESV)

Is it possible to do greater things than Jesus? According to this verse, we can. What great things could He be referring to? The greatest miracle is a changed life! We can reach a greater number of individuals with the gospel than Christ did. Could this be what He was suggesting? Reach out today to those folks you come in contact with. Can we attempt to out-do Jesus? With faith we can.

Prayer: Lord, may I live out the gospel.

I never would have thought God needed or help, but here it seems like he does. It makes sens, he tries as our father to get us to come to him, to listen too hon, to follow his word and often times we just don’t listen. My kids are this way, when it comes from our parents we’d rather try ourselves and attempt to prove them wrong. However, when it comes from someone else it’s easier to accept because there’s no need to prove ourselves. I love being a parent, but I love when my brothers and sisters can teach my kids lessons.

Great thoughts, and yet it is less that God needs our help to accomplish His will. He wants our help, and better yet Christ Jesus, in His omnipotent power and in the ministry of the Holy Spirit, chooses to work through us to accomplish “greater works than these.”
