Daily Devotion

Now the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firmly on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, and all Israel was passing over on dry ground until all the nation finished passing over the Jordan. (Joshua 3:17)

The same God who delivered Israel from the hand of Egypt is the same God now leading Israel into the promised land under the leadership of Joshua. Joshua was commanded by God to be strong and courageous, not to be frightened, and that Lord word be with him (Joshua 1:9). Commentator, Matthew Henry, observes a wonderful bookend to the wondering of desert through holding up the flow of the Jordan River in the height of its seasonal swell just as He did when crossing the Red Sea “to show that God had the same power to finish the salvation of his people that he had to begin it.” Our Salvation is Christ is just as assured. “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). The same power wrought in you to save you is the same power of God to complete the work of salvation only be strong and courageous, do not be afraid, the Lord is with you.

Prayer: Let this hymn be your prayer – Blessed Assurance

blesed-assurance.jpgBlessed assurance, Jesus is mine;
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Chorus

Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Chorus
